Even the stairs leading up to the new ship are characterised by an increasing heartbeat. 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 - the idea is that the pulse increases with each step. Fittingly, there are breath-freshening drops in tablet form at the entrance for general reassurance - a nice marketing gag from Dehler.
Dehler's programme expansion since the takeover by Hansegroup is impressive: The yacht builders in Greifswald have received two nominations for European YACHT of the Year, once in 2013 with the Dehler 38 (test in YACHT 8/2013) and once in 2014 with the Dehler 46 (test in YACHT 22/2014). What's more, the 38 even emerged as the winner of the competition. It won the coveted title in particular due to its unusual versatility as a touring or performance boat. And the sailing characteristics were convincing.
Until now, however, there has been a gap between the Dehler 38 and the Dehler 46 for the popular twelve-metre segment. The new Dehler 42 is now intended to close this gap in a logical programme development. Naturally, the plans for the new boat also come from the office of Judel/Vrolijk & Co in Bremerhaven. Three possible keel variants in different shapes and draughts are offered for the ship. In addition, the customer can configure it themselves from a range of options and a well thought-out equipment package to meet their individual requirements, as a pure touring boat, as a sporty cruiser or as a performance boat suitable for regattas.
Touring sailors, for example, receive a table in the cockpit or a folding bathing platform, which also closes off the cockpit at the rear, among many other things in the cruising package. Sporty sailors, on the other hand, will prefer to do without these amenities, but have the option of increasing performance with a permanently attached bow nose for the gennaker or the Code Zero or a carbon fibre rig.
The mast is through-stepped and rests on the keel. In order to optimally distribute the loads, the structurally supporting floor assembly is reinforced with carbon fibre layers. Dehler calls this a "carbon cage". The hull is built as a GRP sandwich construction with a foam core using the vacuum infusion process. The deck is also a sandwich construction, but is made with a balsa wood core and hand lay-up.
Two or three-cabin versions are planned for the interior of the 42. A second wet room can also be installed in the foredeck on request. The arrangement of the aft bathroom is special: The door either separates the bathroom from the saloon or can swing through to separate the wash area from the toilet and shower. A very well thought-out solution that has already proved its worth on the Dehler 38.
At the trade fair in Düsseldorf, the Dehler 42 is being offered for a gross base price of 202,180 euros, including the high-quality basic equipment and a set of sails (main and genoa). This is extremely attractive compared to the competition. The boat can be seen at the trade fair in Düsseldorf in Hall 16, Stand C 18.
